Steam Installation[]

  1. Select the green Subscribe button at the top of the page. This will automatically download the mod into your Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS folder. If it doesn't, you can try restarting the game application. If it still doesn't, deleting your cache folder in My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5 will force the game to redownload all your currently subscribed mods (this does not affect your saves).

  2. See the General Installation instructions above.

Manual Installation[]

  1. Download the .civ5mod file by copying the mod's Steam Workshop URL into steamworkshop.downloader
    Capture
  2. Place the downloaded .civ5mod file into your Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\MODS folder. You can either leave it and let the game install it for you (in which case, move onto step 3 below), or you can manually unzip the file (.civ5mod files are civ's unique compression format).
  3. See the General Installation instructions above.

Mac Installation[]

You can install mods onto the Mac version of Civ by following this guide. Note, however, that mods that include or depend on a custom DLL are not compatible with Mac versions of Civ.

Troubleshooting[]

In general, the Civ V Steam Workshop is notoriously bad when it comes to installing mods reliably. Deleting your cache folder in My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5 usually does the trick, as this will force the game to redownload all your currently subscribed mods (this does not affect your saves). If that fails (or redownloading ALL your mods doesn't appeal to you), manual installation is your best bet.

For more advanced troubleshooting of mods themselves, see here.

Multiplayer[]

Civ V does not officially support modded multiplayer, but there are some workarounds (see below). However, I cannot guarantee that my mods work in MP and attempting to do so is at your own risk.
